Day 5 of NaNoWriMo: How are you doing?

Have you started your novel yet? As of this writing, we have thirty-five people who have announced their novels and 115,386 words have been written! We're off to a great start!

But just because NaNo has started doesn't mean you can't still join in. If you haven't started writing, then I encourage you to get to it!

This Week's Write-Ins

Monday, November 5, 4 PM to 7 PM at Panera Bread Company in Florence

Tuesday, November 6, 4 PM to 7 PM at Crema Coffee Bar in Hartsville

Saturday, November 10, 8 PM to 10 PM in the NaNo Chatroom; NOTE: I (the ML) will not be at this write-in because I will be out of town. But come, anyway!

Be sure to join the Facebook group to keep tabs on these events and on any random, impromptu write-ins that might crop up.

Our First Pep Talk Author is Andy Weir!

Andy Weir is the author of the immensely popular scifi-novel-turned-movie, The Martian. Here's a snippet of his pep talk:

First off, you have to accept that you’re not going to be blazing away in a creative euphoria all the time. In fact, you’ll almost never be in that state. Usually, it’s a slog. So make your peace with the fact that it is a slog, but that you’re working toward a goal. Writing isn’t like playing music, where the act itself is rewarding. It’s more like gardening, where the work is hard and unpleasant, but the result is beautiful.

Thanks!

I wanted to give a big thank you to Mike, who hosted our Kick Off Party! It was a great success and I was so happy to meet some new faces. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for other parties we'll be having. There's still the Day of Writing Dangerously, which is a drop-in event, and there will be more information on the TGIO Party when we get closer to December.

NaNoWriMo Inspirational Quote of the Week

Find your best time of the day for writing and write. Don’t let anything else interfere. Afterwards it won’t matter to you that the kitchen is a mess. — Esther Freud
